The Favor Continues…

25 10 2008

This week Daniel, Mike Sabot and I went to a conference in Washington, D.C.  I am really thankful to the Lord for opening up the door to go up there. We wound up getting into the conference for free, and that would have been amazing enough. But, as Israel Houghton says “nothing can stop the favor of the Lord!” Bear with me as I rave away about the Lord’s amazing goodness!

Arriving at the airport we asked for exit row seats, only to find out we had to pay. After saying “no thanks” and proceeding to the gate, we were met with gift seat changes to the exit row! Praise!

Upon arriving at the rental car place, they only had one car left. And before turning into a Seinfeld episode, the man gave us his last car…a free upgrade to a sweet fully loaded Accord!

Got to town and, rather than staying in my good friend’s basement, his parents put us up in their house where we actually had beds, not to mention an awesome “man cave” in the basement (tv, billiards, ping pong, darts, pin ball…). It was wonderful to reconnect with those beautiful families.

Yesterday was Mike Sabot’s birthday and we got to celebrate together in one of his favorite cities. I had no idea he liked D.C. so much. But I was reminded about the love & favor of God on us all as we were experiencing the city together.

Tonight we’re leaving town. And the favor continues!!! We rode into the city (D.C.) with Ken & he was giving us a small tour of downtown. That was great. We got to see Ebineezers and try some of their awesome coffee. After that, we went to the Library of Congress. If you’re ever in D.C., make it a point to go there. There are few buildings in America like it, and they have some incredible documents dating back to the origin of our nation.

But then he brought us to see his brother-in-law… We then proceeded to get a behind the scenes, insider tour of the U.S. Senate & Capitol Building. It was unbelievable! We got to go in the basement of the Senate building and walk the “Senate train” tunnel to the Capitol. He took us upstairs into news conference rooms and office hallways to see things no tour could show you, all the while pointing out the historical rooms, disguised offices, etc. Then we finished up by all praying together for our guide, his boss and the leadership of our nation…from right there upstairs in the Capitol Building! Wow!!! God showed up.

We’re at the airport now, pretty tired, but still kind of speechless of the amazing favor of God that has been on this entire trip. Thanks Lord!

My Man

14 10 2008

This was an incredible weekend. One of the best of my life. I went to a conference here in Atlanta called “Catalyst,” and had my world rocked, my mind rewired and my heart ruined for anything less than God alone. Thanks Craig Groeschel. But that’s not what I want to write about now. I’ll get back to that in some following posts.

Also over the weekend my son, Levi, turned 5. On Friday we still had conferencing activity to attend, but after Andy Stanley’s message about moral authority we knew we had to skip out early to go be with him and celebrate. Mys came up with a last minute idea to go to the hockey game, and it happened to be opening night (how often do you get opening night on your birthday???). Only problem was it was standing room only. I didn’t want to go at first, but eventually came around to realize it’s not about me anyway. So, I eventually came around and decided to go. One of the best decisions ever. Long story short, they were sold out by the time we got there when someone came up to us and gave us (fo’ free!) 6 tickets to get in. Little did we know they happened to be directly behind the goal…two rows from the ice! What!?!?!? That’s right. Happy Birthday Levi!

More than just incredible seats to an awesome game (Thrashers won 7-4), I was so overwhelmed with the goodness and love of God as he was demonstrating his loving concern for us and the little things in life.

Eat my flesh

When Jesus stood up and declared “unless you eat my flesh…” (John 6:53) most everybody on the scene said “huh???” In fact, some people stopped following him because they just couldn’t wrap their heads around this guy and his radical style.  I think he was in many ways saying “We’re coming up on the Passover soon…you remember that story right?”  And in fact, the night of the Passover meal, which, in Christendom, is called “the Last Supper,” the account goes like this:

Matthew 26:26
Jesus took some bread, and after a blessing, He broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is My body.” This interaction was as much about meat as it was bread.

As I said regarding the original Passover story, it is was the privilege of every family to eat of the meat given on the altar. The implications for us today are huge! Now, day after day, moment after moment our “meat” is Christ himself, and we grow in strength and stature as we learn to nourish our minds, bodies and hearts with him alone.  He is our true source and our strength.  He is the Rock from which we are cut. He is the Root out of which all that is of God grows. He is the Lamb slain for the sins of the world. He is the one who gave his body to be burned. He is the offering which we must partake of to enjoy the life and blessing of God in our hearts, homes and in every place we go.
