The Rear View Mirror

In yet another installment about focus, I have to share this story…

I was attending a conference with my friend Addison, and during the break we were sitting in the Florida heat stuck in traffic.  I was looking in the rear view mirror when I noticed traffic ahead of us started moving.  Only thing is I never really stopped looking in the mirror.  And, you guessed it… WHAM!

I rear-ended the car in front of me.  Funny, I don’t remember what I was actually looking at, but I do remember the impact and the sinking feeling that followed.

I marvel a at the wisdom of Paul when he wrote in Philippians 3:13 “But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead.”   It’s amazing how dwelling too much on the past will get us into trouble.  Don’t be that guy.  Stay focused on what God has in front of you, and He will take care of your behind.

What are you straining towards right now?
