The Deadly Stromboli

Late one night I was really enjoying a delicious stromboli. There was only one small problem… I was driving.  And if you know anything about strombolis, you know they require a lot of attention so as not to get food all over yourself.

It was late at night and I was on a two lane road.  I shouldn’t have been eating. I should have been focused.  I was on a mission with someplace to go.  When I got lost in the moment with my edible distraction, I unknowingly drifted into the oncoming lane.  I was alerted to this only by the lights bearing down on me.  Fortunately, I barely avoided a head on collision.

Here’s the lesson:
When you’re on a mission, focus is everything.  Losing it can mean losing everything.  So don’t get distracted.

Jude reminds us to “keep yourselves in the love of God…” (21)  That’s pretty focused.  He’s saying, “don’t forget, the love of God is what we’re about.  Forget that, and you could lose everything.” That’s keeping your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.  No matter what your feeling, or seems good, don’t veer off into the traffic going the wrong direction.

Have you ever had to learn this lesson the hard way?
